New Directions
Below is the speech I delivered to close the 2023-2024 Thespian Banquet and end my term as Troupe 3773 President.
Here we are, the most bittersweet day that we’ve all been waiting for. It's the end of an era but it's also the beginning of new and exciting chapters for those who are graduating and those that will continue their artistic journey in this space.
As I reflect upon the past year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the countless memories we have shared together. I am so incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to serve as your president.
This year we made new traditions, served our community, created art and forged many new friendships. We were recognized as an All-Star Troupe at the state festival, we earned Gold honor troupe status, we secured a city proclamation for Theatre in our Schools month, and we nearly tripled our club membership. We made REAL changes. I am extremely proud of all of these achievements and all of you who helped to make them possible.
Throughout the year, I think the board would agree we have been led by one guiding question.
“What else can we do?”
After the absolute high of our first official club meeting, I mingled with attendees old and new, stopping to speak with a fellow thespian. I asked them what they thought of the meeting. The answer, “Thank you for asking what WE think, this year is going to be a lot of fun.” That thespian was right! It has been “Fun.”
We pulled off new events that brought people together such as trunk or treat, the bloody valentine card drive, and our most recent house Olympics. Not only did we create new events, but we encouraged individuals to continue to present their ideas, to be brave, and to try new things.
I was lucky enough to connect with so many individuals, who remind me on the daily why I ran for the position in the first place. Being able to connect with club members this closely is one of my most treasured memories as part of this community. YOU ALL have made this collective what it is. I am so proud to know you.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey.
Thespians, thank you for your dedication, your creativity, your hard work and your voice. You have made my time as president an absolute pleasure.
To our directors and parents, thank you for your guidance, support, and belief in us. You have played a crucial role in shaping us into people that we are today.
And finally to my board, I applaud your willingness to help, the hours you put in, and the perspectives you provided.
As I pass the baton to the next board and its president, I am confident that the legacy of troupe 3773 will continue to thrive.
To the incoming Thespian Board, I have no doubt that you will lead this club with passion, dedication, and integrity. Don’t be afraid to question tradition. Don't be afraid to make changes.
Don’t EVER be afraid to ask “WHY.”
